Links
Highly useful lists of references are on separately-maintained pages (very kindly provided by Sharon Curtis) outside the IT82 site, categorized for you:
If you have any favourite links of your own that you think would be
useful, please do let me know and I would be
happy to add them. Thanks.
CDs for Borrowing from CSG
Two CDs are available for borrowing from the department's Computing Support Group (4B81) for installation of software at home:
- CD 1:
- contains demo versions of many software packages (not just Multimedia), including Director. BUT please note that the demo of Director is time-limited to 30 days, so if you want to do any of your assigment at home, you might like to wait a little so that the software will still be active when the assignment is due! Make sure you get the CD with version 8.0 (NOT 8.5) of Director on it.
- CD 2:
- contains all the media used during the IT82 practicals, as well as examples of Director presentations etc.
Scanning
To use the scanner in 4X7, firstly make sure the scanner is turned on! Then do one of the following:
To run the scanner software from Photoshop:
- Run Adobe Photoshop
- From within Photoshop select, File->Import->TWAIN_32.... The TWAIN scanning window will appear.
- Set required Image Type and Destination Type
- Click the Preview button to preview the scanned image
- Click and drag on the preview to select the area you really want (if not the whole image) and preview this area by clicking the right-hand preview button (with the dashed box on it)
- Use the various image controls to adjust the colour etc in the scan
- When you are satisfied with what you see, click Scan
- Your scanned image appears in a new window.
- Keep scanning new images until you are done, then click Close in the scanning window.
- Now you can edit and save your scanned images in Photoshop. Remember to save your images to files in YOUR file space and in an appropriate format (e.g. GIF for simple drawings and JPEG for photos, usually).
To run the scanner software directly:
- Start->Programs->EPSON Scanner->EPSON Scan!1132
- File->Acquire...
Save it by choosing File->Export... and saving it to a file in YOUR file space and with an appropriate format (e.g. GIF or JPEG usually).
- When exiting the scan program, DO NOT save any scanned images when asked (this would just save them in EPSON's proprietary format, which you will not generally need).
