Project Outcomes

The following are the main published outcomes from the project. In addition, the project has developed a wide range of techniques and software.

Project Book: Advances in Home Care Technologies

In October 2012, the project completed work on a book entitled Advances in Home Care Technologies: Results of The MATCH Project. The book is published by IOS Press in their Assistive Technology Research series with ISBN 978-1-61499-126-7.

The aim of the book is to provide an up-to-date overview of key advances in relevant technology. The target readership includes researchers and practitioners in the fields of telecare and telehealth, policy makers in these areas, and providers of social and health care with an interest in technology.

The contributors from MATCH offer an in-depth look at the latest research in various home care technologies. Although the contributors have provided technically detailed information, they have balanced this with explanatory material to help practitioners in understanding the work, its applications, and its implications.

The book focuses on telecare and, to some extent, telehealth. Given the strong international interest in these fields, the book is particularly timely. Although the book mostly discusses the results of MATCH, it also includes work on related projects. The book will therefore be useful for gaining a wider perspective on home care technologies in general.

The online book description gives a high-level overview of the book. Individual chapters and the entire book can be bought online from IOS.

Project Brochure: Summary of Research Findings

In October 2012, the project published a brochure giving a high-level, non-technical overview of the project research. This brochure is available online. Printed copies can also be requested from the project manager.

Project DVD: Summary of Research Findings

In April 2013, the project published a DVD giving a high-level, non-technical overview of the project research. Copies can be requested from the project manager. Individual films from the DVD are also available to watch online:

Telecare Technologies for The Home

This discusses the requirements for technologies to support home care, and looks at MATCH's response to this. Issues in home care technologies are discussed, and also how technology should fit into user needs and the ongoing dialogue of care.

The MATCH Project Home Care System

This discusses the MATCH home care system. The use of rules to manage home care is explored. User-friendly interfaces to a home care system are discussed, particularly focusing on the value of speech communication for older people.

User Interfaces for Home Care Technologies

This discusses a variety of user-friendly interfaces developed by MATCH for the project's home care system. Personalisation and customisation are explored as key factors in user interfaces for the system.

User Needs for Home Care Systems

This discusses approaches taken by MATCH to investigate user needs for support of home care. Live drama and an instrumented doll's house are both explored as ways of discovering what users need and how they can relate to home care technologies.
