The Contest
Following the first Feature Interaction Detection Contest held with the 5th Feature Interaction Workshop 1998, a second contest will be held in conjunction with FIW'00.
The goal is to provide a simple comparison of different automated tools for feature interaction detection. A preferable outcome will be a catalogue of interactions. In addition to the usual two-way interactions, participants will be encouraged to consider interactions between three features.

Eligibility
Any automated tool for detecting feature interactions may be entered, as long as it was not developed by a contest committee member.

Conduct
As with the previous Contest, this will be split in two phases. Phase one, from August 23rd, 1999 to January 28th, 2000, will involve ten features. The definitions of these features will be made available on August 23rd. For phase two, between January 31st, 2000 and  February 14th, 2000, specifications of two more features are provided and you are asked to find the additional resulting interactions.

In due course, an outline of a table will be provided which should be filled in with your results. Please submit this table containing your results for phase one by January 28th, 2000 and for phase two by February 14th, 2000.
Contestants are also required to submit short papers (2-3 pages) describing their tools, techniques and achieved results by the phase two deadline. These papers will provide an essential overview for the contest judges and a selection will be published in the workshop proceedings.  In addition, contestants are expected to submit a poster which will be on display during the workshop.

Evaluation
The tools will be evaluated according to:

  • the coverage of the tool (how many features could be defined in the tool language)
  • the number of valid feature interactions found
Registration of Interest
Please take this opportunity to register your interest in participating in the Contest. This is not binding you to submit, but simply allows us to maintain a mailing list where updates and new information will be announced. In addition to the mailing list, details we be posted on the Contest web-page.
