Introduction

This document was produced with the intention of assisting students in the preparation of their dissertations using . The document works on two levels. Firstly it provides a short introduction to . Secondly the text files from which it is produced form a set of templates you can use in creating your own files. This chapter is also set using an increased interline spacing, as would be appropriate for a dissertation.

is a collection of typesetting macros designed to make Donald Knuth's [Knuth86] typesetting program more accessible. is a powerful tool. This document only deals those aspects which seem to be essential in the preparation of a dissertation. For a comprehensive presentation the reader is referred to the manual [Lamport86].
