Lyrics
Daisy
I never thought I'd go
Crazy
But I never thought you so
Until now that I see
All the crazy things you're doing
Why you wanna ruin it
And me?
Counting numbered days
Lately
I think you know it's true
That's it
It's all over, I'm through
For a while we can smile
For the people that we're passing
And even if they're asking
We can lie
Counting numbered days
Looks like the sun is gonna set
Know that there's nothing I regret
All the things that I learned
Well, I'd like to think I earned it
No need to go and burn it down now
Counting numbered days
Counting numbered days
Related Interview Extracts
"Numbered Days" finds E mindful of his own
mortality. "I guess when people die the
feelings that come with it never leave
you," he explains. "You don't just move on.
And in my case it just keeps knocking on my
door, what with my cousins hitting the
Pentagon. Really, there aren't many people
left that I know that could die at this
point."

Q: The concept of counting your days
in "Numbered Days" seems to be almost a
Buddhist meditation on impermanence.
E: It could be taken that way. There's a
certain number of days you have left in
your life. But you don't know how many.
Dammit, I wanna know. The Buddhist idea of
impermanence is true, and they recommend
that you don't attach to things, which
causes suffering. The problem is, we're
fucking human and we attach to other
humans. I think it's good to attach to
other people, and if we lose them, it's
going to be a horrible situation. That's
just the way it's going to be. That's
human. I also like graveyards as a simple
reminder to enjoy my time above ground
while I can.

Favourite Parts
I like the way second verse expresses the end of a relationship whilst still smiling for "the people that we're passing" and pretending everything's okay.
Lately
I think you know it's true
That's it
It's all over, I'm through
For a while we can smile
For the people that we're passing

We can lie
The music after the third verse is fantastic. "WoooHooo, WooHooHooHooHoooo".
Trivia
Was written the same day as "Rock Hard Times".
