Lyrics

The kids are diggin' up a brand new hole
Where they put the deadbeat mom
Grandpa's happy watching video porn
With the closed caption on
And father knows best
About suicide and smack

Well, hee hee hee
Cancer for the cure
Cancer for the cure
Buckle up and endure now baby
Cancer for the cure

Old blue eyes is back again
But he was never here in the first place
A heart attack may be something to fear
But take a look out back
'cause courtney needs love
And so do I

Well, hee hee hee
Cancer for the cure
Cancer for the cure
Buckle up and endure now sweet thing
Cancer for the cure

Related Interview Extracts

E: It's about more than one thing at the same time. Cancer eats a persons body and i thought about all the ilness that eats up my family and i connected it with cancer that eats of the world, of the society.

Q: Yes, cause you start with some kind of fucked-up family values by singing : "The kids are digging' up a brand nem hole/where to put the deadbeat mom/grandpa's happy watching video porn".

E: I would have a kind of times perspective in it. It's like we are looking for a cure against cancer, but in some way it's the opposite entrance to it. Like healing a wound instead of changing things, so the wound wouldn't even arise. What happens when the cure for cancer gets cancer. If we find a cure for cancer we will just continue doing things that fucks the world up and make cancer inside. There is a reason for cancer, it will be replaced by something else. But then again, if i had cancer i would pray for a cure was found. I'm not an idiot, i want to live as long as possible. It's not that black or white.

Q: Courtney Love also appears in this song.

E: Yes, "Courtney needs love". I'm just fascinated by her name. She just seemed like someone who needs love to me, and i understand that. It's a sign of times.

Favourite parts

For me, this song's all about the music. You can almost feel a huge release of angst during the song's intro. I like how all the emotion of loss and pain are channeled into rock. The rock allows the feelings to be released and helps conquer them.

The song is so loud that it can completely overpower your thoughts giving true escapism.

Trivia

Did fairly disasterously badly as a single.

Features a lead vocal "tripled" because "doubled" wasn't enough.

The song is featured on the American Beauty soundtrack and the video briefly appears on a TV in the film.

Reached number 60 in the UK Chart and was in the charts for 1 week.
