Tips:

To find out what HTML looks like in practice: In most Web browsers you can select an option called something like View menu or Page Source when viewing a Web page - usually a new window will pop up showing the actual HTML received from the server.

Try it on simple pages - complex pages can be nightmarish to look at.

Usually you can save your own copy of an HTML document that you are browsing using File menu/Save As.
