Honours Project Variants
CSC99Z (Project by Part-Time Study)
The project is undertaken over one semester and counts as one module. It
may be undertaken in the Autumn or Spring semester according to the
student's preference and programme of study. It is expected that a
CSC99Z project will be undertaken by part-time study, mainly out of
office hours. Meetings of CSC99Z students and supervisors are therefore
arranged as mutually convenient.
The regulations for CSC9Z7 projects apply with the following variations:
- Prescribed Classes

Students may be excused attendance at prescribed classes with the
agreement of their supervisor.
- Preliminary Report
-
This must be submitted by the end of the semester prior to the one in
which the project commences.
- Interim Report
-
There is no interim assessment so there is no corresponding report,
poster or demonstration.
- Final Report
-
For an Autumn project, a final poster is presented along with the other
interim posters. For a Spring project, a final presentation is given
along with the other final presentations. The final report and final
demonstration are due by the last day of the relevant semester. The
final report should be roughly 7,500 words including appendixes (i.e.
about 30 pages). The size of reports typically ranges from 6,000 words
to 10,000 words. A single, final stage accounts for 100% of the project
mark. The project diary and code/data listings must be submitted along
with the final report.
CSC9ZZ (One-Semester Project)
The project is undertaken over one semester and counts as one module. It
may be undertaken in the Autumn or Spring semester according to the
student's preference and programme of study. For Computing Science
with Professional Education, the project is undertaken in semester 8.
The regulations for CSC9Z7 projects apply with the following variations:
- Preliminary Report

This must be submitted by the end of the semester prior to the one in
which the project commences.

There is no interim assessment so there is no corresponding report,

- Final Report

The project is undertaken from the beginning of January to the start of
the following Autumn semester and counts as three modules. The
regulations for CSC9Z7 projects apply with the following variations:
- Development

The project must concern development of a software system.
- Preliminary Report

This must be submitted by the first working day in January.
- Interim Report
-
An interim presentation must be given along with the other final
presentations. An interim report must be submitted by the end of Spring
teaching period. A demonstration of the prototype must be given by the
end of the Spring semester.
- Final Report
-
The final report must be submitted by the start of the Autumn semester.
A demonstration of the final system must also be given by this date.
The project diary and code/data listings must be submitted along with
the final report. There is no final presentation.
CSCMZ7 (Muscat Honours Project)
The regulations for CSC9Z7 projects apply with the following variations:
- Prescribed Classes

The requirement to attend and report on a department seminar does not
apply.
