Travel

Scheduled air services operate between some European and North American cities and Edinburgh or Glasgow. There are frequent flights between London Heathrow and Edinburgh or Glasgow. Less frequent flights operate from London Gatwick and other provincial cities to Edinburgh or Glasgow. Some airlines operate flights to Prestwick (which is about an hour South of Glasgow). There are also overnight buses and sleeper trains between London and Stirling. The railway and bus stations in Stirling are located centrally, about 5 km away from the University. The University is in Bridge of Allan, a satellite village East of Stirling. There is a bus service to the University and Bridge of Allan from the central bus station in Stirling (near the railway station). There is a taxi rank at the railway station and in nearby Murray Place.

Passengers arriving at Edinburgh Airport may take a taxi to Stirling. This will take around 45 minutes and might cost about £65 (for an airport taxi) or £50 (for a pre-booked Stirling taxi). Before taking a taxi, be sure to agree a price with the driver. Alternatively, the public transport route is to take the airport bus to Edinburgh Waverley station, and then to take the train to Stirling. Trains to Stirling run roughly every hour. The whole journey will take around 2.5 hours, and will cost approximately £11.

Passengers arriving at Glasgow Airport may take a taxi to Stirling. This will take around one hour and might cost about £60 (for an airport taxi) or about £40 (for a pre-booked Stirling taxi). Before taking a taxi, be sure to agree a price with the driver. Alternatively, the public transport route is to take the airport bus to Glasgow Queen Street station, and then to take the train to Stirling. Trains to Stirling run roughly every hour. The whole journey will take around 2.5 hours, and will cost approximately £11.

You may be able to get a Stirling taxi firm to take an advance booking to pick you up at Glasgow or Edinburgh. However, they may ask you to phone on arrival in the UK. Try Mr. Malcolmson (phone 447177) or Jo Cars (phone 811782) in Stirling. For arrivals in Glasgow you could try a company like Glasgow Private Hire. In all cases, make sure you agree a price in advance and agree what happens in the event of flight delays.
