I am a full-time PhD candidate at the University of Stirling supervised by Prof Edmund Burke and Dr Jerry Swan. I received my bachelor's degree (1st class) in Computing Science from the University of Stirling in the summer of 2013. My research interests include evolutionary computation and SBSE, in particular the maintenance phase of software development. I am currently investigating the application of cognitive architectures to SBSE problems in which a humanocentric-bias is beneficial.
I am currently conducting my PhD within the CHORDS group, specifically on the DAASE project, a multi-site effort to produce new and exciting search-based techniques within the software engineering field. Utilizing heuristic and metaheuristic strategies, the goal of this project is to revolutionise the way in which software engineers currently think about their methodology allowing for a multitude of new techniques to be utilized to enhance the whole development process; from requirements capture all the way to maintainance.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with computer games, TV and film, all of which I share with my fiancee Tracy. I have quite a musical history ranging from playing the highland bagpipes (at an international level), electric guitar and piano/keyboard - the latter being my current preoccupation. In the not too distant past I was actively involved in the sport of target shooting/field shooting (both rifle and pistol), fencing and kung fu. Nowadays, I spend the majority of my time with my nose buried in CS literature - not always from within the field of evolutionary computation but from the whole computer science spectrum - I find the whole concept of computation and the ability to compute things using arguably our most ingenious invention of all time (the modern computer) both amazing and facinating at the same time.
Team full of amazing people. Although young, we are all very experienced in what we do, just see our resumes or let our work speak for us!
