My research interest is artificial intelligence (AI) (also called computational intelligence and synthetic intelligence). AI deals with building intelligence into machines and computers.

Intelligence is the ability to learn from past experiences and apply the learning to solve new problems. It is an attribute of living organisms and is essential for individual survival.

Learning is fundamental to intelligence. We learn from experiences. Experiences provide us with data (or raw facts). Our brain uncovers patterns in data by some complex algorithms. We do not know for sure what the algorithms are. Different persons use different algorithms.

Data mining (also called machine learning) is a branch of artificial intelligence and statistics. The aim of data mining is to discover patterns in data. Artificial intelligence applies data mining algorithms to introduce automated learning in computing machines. Computers can perform data mining tasks much better than the human brain. Artificial intelligence can extract previously unknown and potentially useful knowledge from large databases using data mining algorithms. The new knowledge may enable us to make better decisions. Thus we can become more intelligent through the creation of artificial intelligence. I am currently developing computational intelligence based algorithms (based on Neural Networks and Evolutionary Algorithms) for faster, automatic and more accurate data mining.
