DATSCI is led by Prof Amir Hussain
and is a group of inter-disciplinary
scientists exploring, developing, and applying brain-inspired
computational techniques, search and optimisation methodologies to a
range of real-world data-driven problems.
Research is conducted under two broad themes:
Cognitive Data Science & Optimisation (bringing together the
work of the previous CogComp & CHORDS research groups) - focus is on
real-world problem-driven research, addressing data-centric problems of
national & institutional importance, including the underlying ethical
and privacy issues. Techniques are derived from operational research,
heuristic optimisation, machine learning and cognitive science.
Application targets include financial technologies, industrial and cloud
resource scheduling, health and social care, biological, environmental,
sports and clinical sciences etc.
Security & Networking: Data-driven security (including
cyber-security), networking and systems - addressing associated
challenges of safeguarding anonymity, and preserving privacy, trust and
security (all important adjuncts to the data space).
