Computing Science Student Software
Computing Science and Mathematics at the University of Stirling provides installation materials for all of the software used in Computing Science labs that can be made available for students to install on their own home PCs. The software provided is as close to the same versions as we can manage to that in our labs.
The networked disk volume \\wsv.cs.stir.ac.uk\student contains copies of the relevant installation materials and students can take copies of files and folders on this volume onto a USB flash drive, a CD, etc..
These applications are presented as they would be had you downloaded them from the relevant web sites yourself. If you encounter any problems with the individual items, with the exception of installation, you should check the relevant web sites.
To connect to this network volume:
- Click on Start
- Right-click My Computer
- Select Map Network Drive...
- In the Folder: box, type \\wsv.cs.stir.ac.uk\student
- Click Finish
Alternatively:
- Click Start
- Click Run...
- In the Open: box, enter \\wsv.cs.stir.ac.uk\student
- click OK
Within \\wsv.cs.stir.ac.uk\student there is a folder named Software, which contains licensed, shareware and free software.

named Trial, which contains trial versions of various
multimedia applications.

If you have problems copying files from the network, the contents of this share can be made available on CD which students can borrow on request from Room 4B81, Cottrell. Students will need to show their student card to be able to borrow a CD.
