Welcome to the home page of PDMU9L6, Information Technology Skills.

ALL MODULE INFORMATION IS IN CANVAS FOR AUTUMN 2017.

PDMU9L6 is a half module in IT skills which aims to develop a broad appreciation of information technology, through development of skills in using various standard application packages; in particular: Document Preparation including Word Processing and Graphics Manipulation, Spreadsheets, Slide Show Presentations. Teaching assumes students already have basic computer skills in a Windows interface.

This module runs in Autumn semester as a stream of CSCU9B1. It is not currently planned to run in the evening again, or in Spring. It is delivered in ten practical sessions (workshops). In semester, the usual attendance pattern for each student is one two-hour workshop per week, but there will be a number of timetabled sessions each week, so a faster pace is possible. You can find out more about what the module covers by looking at the syllabus.

Who should take this module?

This is a half-credit personal development module. Because IT skills are important for all students in the university this module is open to any day or evening student except:

  • any student taking a Computing Science module.
  • any student who has passed a Computing Science module.
  • any student in their first semester.

Module combinations

This module is naturally paired with the half credit modules PDMU9L7 - Advanced Information Technology Skills, PDMU9L4 Data Skills and PDMU9L5 - Further Data Skills. It may not be paired with any other Computing Science module.

This module will run in Autumn 2017.

For further information consult the syllabus and schedule from the menu at the left. The first meeting of the class is on Friday 15th September 2017, at 11am in lecture theatre W1 (Cottrell). There will be no further lectures.
