Industrial Advisory Board (IAB)

Aims and Activities

Our aim is to foster strong links between the institute and the users of our output. We produce qualified graduates, world leading research and development, and PhD. level researchers.

The users of our output include employers of our students, users of our technology, and organisations requiring bespoke research.

The goals of IAB are:

  • To maintain links with potential employers, giving students an insight into the types of job they may find and giving employers a chance to find the right employees now and influence what is taught in the future
  • To transfer knowledge and technology from the institute to a wide user base
  • To make our research relevant to the user base
  • To collaborate with the user base on joint research and development projects

We work to acheive these goals by:

  • Inviting potential employers to meet students and see their project work
  • Allowing employers to suggest changes to course content
  • Jointly applying for grants with partners from outside the university
Specific activities to acheive this are
  • We hold two meetings a year:
    • One where you can meet final year students, see their project work and discuss your requirements as an employer
    • One with a knowledge transfer focus where where you can learn about our research and expertise and discuss potential collaborations and grant proposals
  • We maintain an on-line repositry of student CVs, project work and interests to help companies find the right employee
  • We periodically send out newsletters to all members with special notice of new technology, grant opportunities, work experience requirements etc.
